Who Did You Vote For?

Scripture: 1 Peter 5:6-11

1. Remember Your Responsibility, 1 Pet. 5:6-7
We are to humble ourselves…

a) “under the mighty hand of God…

We know God is sovereign intellectually, but do we know functionally?
Ultimately, God doesn’t care who runs the country because He runs the universe.
He doesn’t need mighty opinions, but mighty humility.
In eternity, He’ll not ask who we voted for, but will ask, “Why didn’t you trust Me?”

b) …that He may exalt you at the proper time…

I’ve seen believers become pundits rather than prayers.

c) …casting all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you.”

[He reviews the Garden of Gethsemane.] We can cast our cares on Him knowing that He’s experienced what we’re experiencing. He knows. He understands.
There is a difference between casting your cares on the Lord and casting them on Facebook.
This is the I Disagree With You Decade.
Is it safe for people to disagree with you?
1 Cor. 5 says that God judges the world, but that we are to judge those in the Church.
Facebook is not a safe place. This [our church] should be a safe place.
It’s okay to be politically affiliated, but be a Christian first.

2. Remember Your Reality, 1 Pet. 5:8-9

We have a real enemy, and it’s not a political party.

3. Remember Your Reward, 1 Pet. 5:10-11

Cast your cares on the Lord vertically, and on the church horizontally.
Our security is in Jesus.

From the closing prayer:
Complaining about You is a sin. Complaining to You is a psalm.
There’s as much fake news in the spiritual world as there is in the natural.
